These are some stories from my travels in 2019.

I hope you enjoy the text and the pictures.

COTSWOLDS 4 - August 1 2019

We split up for the morning of our fourth day. Jen, Barry and the kids stayed on the park and made use of the water facilities that were on offer. James and I set off to visit Highclere Castle and dragged Rachel along with us. The castle is actually a country house built in the Jacobean style and the grounds were laid out by that well-known park and garden designer of the 18th century, Capability Brown. The castle is in Hampshire and is the country seat of the Earl of Carnarvon which would imply to me that he may have needed somewhere to sit down on his way to Wales. The castle is a Grade I listed building.

James was particularly keen to see the castle as it was the location used in the filming of the Stephen Fry and Hugh Laurie comedy series Jeeves and Wooster. Although the series aired well before James was born, he is a great fan of the duo and so really wanted to get into the atmosphere by visiting Highclere castle. I actually really like walking around these places and seeing how my fellow upper-class citizens live, those who have not thought to bring themselves down to the ordinary man as I have done. Oh, and Downton Abbey is filmed there too. Never watched it myself but Rachel seemed a bit of a fan,

After walking round the castle we set out for a stroll through the grounds which, as you can see, are very pretty.

We then returned to the castle area and went to have something for lunch. Rachel was so excited about visiting the "real" Downton Abbey that she even did a little dance in the restaurant marquee and persuaded several other diners to join in. However, the "other diners" were quite small and flew around a bit so maybe there was another reason for her impromptu performance. I don't usually like taking pictures of people because it is very difficult to get a natural look. Point a camera, or these days a phone and probably some time in the future a matchbox, at some people and they pose, put on a cheesy grin and think they look good. However these are two of my favourite photos of two of my favourite people.

We got back to the water park just in time to catch the end of the entertainment. Jen, Ellie and Cassie were sharing the two paddle boards that were available. They seemed to be having a really good time and, while we were there and I had my camera, no one capsized into the water. Rachel nipped inside and didn't reappear but James decided to have a go in the canoe, which he couldn't really fit in, so he went out in the larger raft. There follows a selection of photos.
