THE FIRST TIME EVER I SAW YOUR FACE

The first time ever I heard this song I was about to be, or just had been, scared out of my skin. I had completely forgotten about the song until a few days ago when I was talking about scary movies. I was explaining they didn't scare me for two reasons. Firstly I hardly ever watch a movie and secondly I never watch a horror/scary movie.

I then remembered that many years ago I had watched a movie all the way through, on my own if I recall the time correctly, and that movie was a Clint Eastwood one called Play Misty for me. In simple terms he was a DJ and some slightly, or as it turned out very, crazed woman used to call up his show and asks for him to play Misty for her. The film took a dark turn as she did begin to stalk him and somewhere in the film he is minding his own business in his apartment and this woman leaps out from behind a curtain and attacks him with a knife. At least that is how I remember it,

However her reveal was done so well, with absolutely no prior warning, that I almost had a heart attack and may not have concentrated that hard for the next few minutes. This song was played in the movie, while someone was walking though a field, again if my memory serves. I really liked the song then and into the future but, as I said, I had forgotten about until this conversation.

When I decided to upload it here I had a quick look at who wrote it and the story behind it and it became even more special. It was written by the poet, political activist and several other things, Ewan MacColl for his then lover Peggy Seeger when they began the affair that would eventually lead to marriage. MacColl died in in 1989 aged 74 but Peggy Seeger, who was 20 years his junior, is still alive today. Theirs was a nice story and made the song even more meaningful.
