LOOK WHHAT THEY DONE TO MY SONG MA

I liked this song when it first came out in 1970. I understood the lyrics to be about a pure songwriter whose lyrics were distorted by those in the music industry to become more popular. Melanie Safka, who wrote and recorded the song, is saying that the music industry not only perverts her song but also her brain. This makes her unhappy because she feels that writing and singing songs is the only thing she can do right.

This first version, we're back on a 2-for-1 kick again, has Melanie in her late sixties, singing alongside Miley Cyrus, then about 23. I simply love the way they seem to be having so much fun and how two completely different generations can work together. I know very little about Miley Cyrus and I don't need to because just with this performance I can see she is a fine performer.

The second version is one of Melanie, who didn't use her surname in those days, singing the song in 1970. I'm sure we take into later life our own opinions on attractiveness and beauty, both of which I believed and believe Melanie had. I also like people who can grow old naturally as it appears Melanie has.
